Freelander 8 Previewed at Dealerships as Chery Jaguar Land Rover Launches 30-City Roadshow

The Freelander 8, the first model from the independent Freelander brand under Chery Jaguar Land Rover, is now being previewed at select dealerships across China. This early arrival coincides with a nationwide roadshow campaign, giving the public a first look at the upcoming extended-range electric SUV ahead of its official launch.

Freelander 8 Roadshow and Dealership Displays

Chery Jaguar Land Rover has begun a major roadshow for the Freelander 8, covering 17 provinces and 30 cities throughout China. The campaign was announced on July 18, with the first stop in Aranya and scheduled visits to major cities such as Beijing, Shenzhen, Chengdu, Guangzhou, Shanghai, and Hangzhou. The initial roadshow route runs from July 12 to August 1, 2026, with additional stops to be announced.

In parallel, selected authorised dealerships are receiving display units of the Freelander 8, allowing customers to view the vehicle ahead of its official market launch. However, a full list of participating dealerships has not been released, and these showroom arrivals do not mark the start of official deliveries.

Technical Highlights and Features

The Freelander 8 is built on an extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) platform, combining a 1.5T range-extender engine producing 115 kW (154 hp) with a 60.331 kWh CATL Freevoy ternary NMC battery. The company states a WLTC pure electric range of 221 km (~137 miles).

The SUV features an 800V electrical system with 6C charging capability and a peak charging input of 350 kW. Off-road capability is supported by three differential-lock functions—a front mechanical lock, rear electronic limited-slip differential, and a virtual centre lock system—along with a closed dual-chamber air suspension and Huawei-tuned i-ATS all-terrain management system.

Interior and Dimensions

Inside, the Freelander 8 offers a 2+2+2 six-seat configuration. The dashboard is equipped with a 46.3-inch panoramic display spanning 1.2 meters (~47 inches), offering 8K resolution and 1000 nits peak brightness, complemented by a 15.6-inch central control screen powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8397 automotive processor.

The Freelander 8 measures 5,118 mm (~202 inches) in length, 2,050 mm (~81 inches) in width, and 1,898 mm (~75 inches) in height, with a 3,040 mm (~120 inches) wheelbase. Some regulatory filings list a longer length of 5,185 mm (~204 inches), depending on exterior equipment. The vehicle supports an optional towing package rated up to 2,000 kg (~4,409 lbs) and has a gross vehicle weight of 3,495 kg (~7,705 lbs).

Why this matters

The Freelander 8 marks the debut of the Freelander brand as an independent entity under the Chery Jaguar Land Rover partnership, introducing a new player to China’s competitive SUV segment. Its combination of extended-range electric technology, advanced off-road features, and high-tech interior positions it as a notable entry for consumers seeking both capability and innovation.

The ongoing roadshow and early dealership displays provide potential buyers with an opportunity to experience the Freelander 8 firsthand before its official launch, reflecting the brand’s strategy to build anticipation and gather feedback ahead of market entry.

What this means for buyers

Buyers interested in the Freelander 8 can now visit select dealerships or attend the roadshow events to preview the vehicle and its features. However, pricing, production targets, and delivery timelines have not yet been announced, so those considering a purchase should monitor official updates for further details as the launch approaches.
