Second-Generation BYD Seal 07 Launches in China with Flash Charging and Advanced ADAS

BYD has introduced the second-generation Seal 07 sedan to the Chinese market, offering both battery-electric and plug-in hybrid options. The new model brings updated styling, rapid charging technology, and the God’s Eye assisted driving system, aiming to refresh BYD’s presence in the mid-size sedan segment.

Design and Features

The second-generation BYD Seal 07 adopts the Ocean Aesthetics 2.0 design language, closely resembling the flagship Seal 08. It features slim daytime running lights, a closed front end, integrated headlights, and a full-width taillight strip. A roof-mounted LiDAR sensor is included as part of the God’s Eye B assisted driving system, which supports the Navigate On Autopilot (NOA) function.

With dimensions of 5,080 mm (~200 inches) in length, 1,960 mm (~77 inches) in width, 1,495 mm (~59 inches) in height, and a 2,960 mm (~117 inches) wheelbase, the Seal 07 is 20 mm longer than the global BMW 5 Series (G60). Six exterior colors are available: green, pink, purple, silver, white, and black. The BEV variant offers a 618-liter trunk and a 160-liter frunk, while the PHEV version provides a 595-liter trunk.

Interior and Technology

Inside, the Seal 07 features a 15.6-inch floating touchscreen, a head-up display, and a 10.25-inch LCD instrument cluster. The gear shifter is positioned behind a three-spoke D-shaped steering wheel, and the center tunnel includes a 50W wireless phone charger and physical buttons.

A notable addition is the ‘smart companion’ Diva, a smartwatch that can perform various functions. The cabin also offers four integrated magnetic mounting points for accessories, and rear passengers can install tablets on the back of the front seats. Standard features include heated and ventilated front seats, dual-zone climate control with a high-temperature sterilization mode, a glass roof, acoustic windows, a power tailgate, and hands-free in-car karaoke. Top trims add zero-gravity front seats with massage, heated and ventilated rear seats, 20 speakers, and a built-in refrigerator.

Powertrain and Performance

The BEV version of the Seal 07 is equipped with a single rear electric motor delivering 245 kW (329 hp), enabling 0-100 km/h acceleration in 5.5 seconds and a top speed of 240 km/h. It uses a 76.7 kWh Blade 2.0 LFP battery, offering up to 775 km (~482 miles) CLTC range and 636 km (~395 miles) WLTP range, with energy consumption rated at 9.8 kWh per 100 km. The battery supports flash charging, allowing a charge from 10% to 97% in nine minutes.

The Seal 07 DM-i plug-in hybrid combines a 1.5-liter petrol engine (115 kW/154 hp) with a 160 kW (215 hp) front-mounted electric motor. It accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.7 seconds and features a 38 kWh battery, providing 330 km (~205 miles) CLTC electric range and 271 km (~168 miles) WLTP range.

Chassis and Suspension

The Seal 07 features a front double-wishbone and rear five-link suspension setup. Lower trims are equipped with the DiSus-C intelligent damping body control system, while higher trims offer the DiSus-M intelligent magnetorheological system, previously exclusive to Denza and Fang Cheng Bao models.

Pricing and Availability

The BYD Seal 07 EV is priced between $22,422 (~AUD 32,011) and $25,862 (~AUD 36,922) before discounts. The Seal 07 DM-i plug-in hybrid ranges from $20,926 (~AUD 29,875) to $22,422 (~AUD 32,011). With limited-time offers, the price range can be reduced to $20,328 (~AUD 29,021) to $25,264 (~AUD 36,068).

Why this matters

The launch of the second-generation BYD Seal 07 demonstrates BYD’s rapid response to market feedback, following lower-than-expected sales of the previous model. With advanced charging, a comprehensive ADAS suite, and a choice of BEV or PHEV powertrains, the Seal 07 aims to strengthen BYD’s position in China’s competitive mid-size sedan segment.

What this means for buyers

Buyers in China now have access to a mid-size sedan that combines fast charging, advanced driver assistance, and a range of comfort features. Those considering a new electric or plug-in hybrid sedan should evaluate the Seal 07’s technology, range, and pricing against other options in the segment.
