Xpeng has officially launched its new L03 electric SUV-coupe in Europe, setting a starting price that comes in well below the Tesla Model Y in key markets. With deliveries set to begin in the fourth quarter, the L03 is positioned to shake up Europe’s most competitive EV segment.
Xpeng L03 Debuts with Aggressive Pricing
The Xpeng L03 was unveiled at the company’s Global Brand Event in Munich this week, marking Xpeng’s largest global launch to date. Orders for the L03 opened simultaneously across more than 60 markets, with the vehicle targeting the heart of the European electric SUV segment.
Pricing for the L03 starts at €34,990 in France and Belgium, €35,600 in Germany, €36,600 in Austria, and €36,990 in the Netherlands. In Norway, the L03 is listed at 299,900 kroner, while Denmark and Sweden see starting prices of 239,995 kroner and 399,900 kronor, respectively.

Features and Specifications
The L03 is a 4.65-meter electric SUV-coupe, available in four battery-electric variants in Germany, all equipped with LFP cells. Despite using a 400-volt architecture, the L03 supports charging speeds up to 236 kW, allowing a 10 to 80% charge in just 20 minutes.
Standard features include a heat pump, 6 kW vehicle-to-load capability, heated and ventilated front seats, and a panoramic roof. The top Ultra trim adds two of Xpeng’s Turing AI chips running the VLA 2.0 driver-assist system. A range-extender version, the L03 Power X, will launch later this year from €38,600 in Germany, offering a claimed total range of up to 1,000 km (~620 miles).

How the L03 Compares to Tesla Model Y
Tesla’s Model Y Standard, introduced at €39,990 in Europe last year, now starts at €38,970 in Germany after a recent price adjustment. This positions the L03 €3,370 cheaper than the Model Y in Germany. While the Model Y Standard offers a longer WLTP range of 534 km (~332 miles) compared to the L03’s 445 km (~277 miles), the L03 charges faster with a 236 kW peak versus Tesla’s 175 kW.
In Norway, the price gap is even more pronounced. The Model Y starts at 399,990 kroner (~$41,500), while the L03 is priced at 299,900 kroner (~$31,100), a difference of about $10,400. This pricing strategy allows the L03 to avoid Norway’s new VAT on EVs priced above 300,000 kroner.
Market Position and Availability
European prices for the L03 include VAT—19% in Germany and 20% in France—making direct comparisons with US MSRPs challenging. Excluding VAT, the L03 is positioned as a $33,000–$34,000 EV in US terms, while the Tesla Model Y Standard starts at $39,990 in the US before destination fees.
The L03’s closest US market equivalent is the Chevy Equinox EV, which starts at $34,995 but offers slower charging speeds. Xpeng’s L03 features up to 236 kW charging, 285 kW dual-motor options, and Level 2+ driver assistance hardware. However, due to current US tariffs on Chinese vehicles, the L03 is not available in the American market.
Why this matters
The launch of the Xpeng L03 signals a new phase in EV price competition in Europe, particularly in the high-volume electric SUV segment. By offering a well-equipped vehicle at a lower price point than the Tesla Model Y, Xpeng is challenging established players and making advanced EV technology more accessible.
With Xpeng registering over 4,600 vehicles in Europe in June—a fourth consecutive monthly record—the company is rapidly expanding its presence. The L03’s aggressive pricing and feature set could further accelerate this growth, intensifying competition and potentially driving down prices across the segment.
What this means for buyers
For European EV buyers, the arrival of the Xpeng L03 offers a compelling new alternative in the mid-size electric SUV market. With standard features like fast charging, a heat pump, and advanced driver assistance, the L03 provides strong value, especially for those prioritizing upfront cost and charging speed.
Buyers should consider local service availability and delivery timelines, as Xpeng’s European support network is still developing. Those in Norway benefit most from the L03’s pricing, while buyers in other markets should compare the L03’s features and range against established models like the Tesla Model Y and Chevy Equinox EV.
