Five-Door Changan Lumin Plus Reaches Dealers in China Ahead of November 2026 Launch

The five-door Changan Lumin Plus electric hatchback has arrived at dealerships across China ahead of its official market debut. This new variant builds on the original three-door Lumin EV, offering more space and updated features for urban drivers.

Changan Lumin Plus: Extended Design and Features

The Changan Lumin Plus is an elongated version of the original three-door Lumin EV, with its body length increased by 245 mm. This change provides additional legroom for rear passengers, making the hatchback more practical for daily use.

The Lumin Plus maintains the design language of its predecessor, featuring circular headlights, a large air intake, fuzzy rims, distinctive taillights, and blackened pillars. The addition of four doors and real door handles further distinguishes it from the earlier model.

Interior and Technology

Inside, the Changan Lumin Plus is equipped with a touchscreen on the center console, a gear shifter behind the wheel, and an LCD instrument cluster. Window switches are positioned in the center tunnel, and the vehicle features a D-shaped three-spoke steering wheel.

The rear seats can be folded flat in a 5/5 ratio, enhancing cargo flexibility. The model seen at dealerships comes finished in silver with a brown interior.

Performance and Range

The Lumin Plus uses a single electric motor delivering a peak power output of 35 kW (47 hp). While battery details have not been disclosed, the hatchback offers a CLTC range between 205 and 301 km (~127–187 miles), and an estimated WLTP range of approximately 168–247 km (~104–153 miles).

Sales and Market Context

Changan launched the original three-door Lumin EV in June 2022, with a starting price of $7,341 (~AUD 10,445). According to China EV DataTracker, a total of 552,599 Lumin hatchbacks have been delivered in China. However, only 38,064 units were delivered domestically from January to September 2026, marking a 69.4% decrease year-over-year.

Why this matters

The arrival of the five-door Changan Lumin Plus at dealerships signals the brand’s continued commitment to the city EV segment, despite a recent decline in sales. The elongated design aims to address consumer needs for more space and practicality in compact electric vehicles.

What this means for buyers

Buyers interested in a compact yet more spacious city EV will soon have the option to consider the five-door Lumin Plus. With its official launch set for November 2026, those seeking improved rear seat comfort and updated features may find this new variant appealing.
