Geely’s Smart #2 is set to debut in China on November 5, bringing a new take on the brand’s compact EV segment. Designed by the Mercedes-Benz global design team, the Smart #2 combines a distinctive look with practical features and a focus on urban mobility.
Design and Dimensions
The Smart #2 was developed by the Mercedes-Benz global design team, aiming to reinterpret the brand’s two-seater heritage with a design philosophy described as ‘modern, passionate, pure, and surprising.’ Built on the ECA electric compact architecture, the vehicle features a ‘four-wheels-at-the-corners’ layout and a sculptural exterior.
Its compact footprint measures either 2,751 mm or 2,764 mm in length (~108.3 or ~108.8 inches), 1,669 mm in width (~65.7 inches), and 1,555 mm in height (~61.2 inches), with a wheelbase of 1,875 mm (~73.8 inches). The interior adopts a ‘Bench Seat’ configuration and an ‘S-Shape’ wraparound cockpit to maximise space.

Interior and Practicality
The Smart #2 features a two-piece tailgate: the upper glass section opens independently for easier access in tight spaces, while the lower section folds down to serve as a loading platform or a seat capable of supporting up to 120 kg (~265 lbs). The cabin achieves a 78% space utilisation rate, with a floor 25 mm (~1 inch) lower than the previous-generation Fortwo and 1,000 mm (~39.4 inches) of headroom.
Performance and Charging
Power comes from an 11-in-1 electric drive system delivering a maximum output of 60 kW (80 hp). The 35.8 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery pack, supplied by CATL, enables a CLTC-rated range of 410 km (~255 miles) and an estimated WLTP range of about 332 km (~206 miles).
Fast charging is supported, allowing the battery to be charged from 10% to 80% in 20 minutes. The Smart #2 also includes V2L (Vehicle-to-Load) functionality for powering external devices.
Handling and Safety
With a tight turning radius of 3.35 meters, the Smart #2 is designed for easy maneuvering in urban environments. It uses a staggered tyre setup, with narrower front tyres and wider rear tyres to enhance handling stability and grip.
Safety features include up to seven airbags—covering front, side, curtain, and far-side positions—and a suite of 16 active and passive safety technologies. These include Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), Blind Spot Detection (BSD), Lane Departure Prevention (LDP), Lane Keeping Assist (LKA), and Lane Departure Warning (LDW).
Why this matters
The launch of the Smart #2 marks a significant update for the Smart brand, blending Mercedes-Benz design expertise with Geely’s electric vehicle technology. Its compact size, fast charging, and advanced safety features are tailored for city drivers seeking practicality without sacrificing modern amenities.
With its official launch set for November 5, the Smart #2 could appeal to urban consumers looking for an efficient, space-optimised EV with a strong safety focus.
What this means for buyers
Buyers interested in a compact, city-focused electric vehicle will find the Smart #2 offers a blend of practicality, safety, and quick charging. Those prioritising maneuverability and interior space in a small footprint should consider the Smart #2 when it becomes available in China this November.
