Nio Inc reported August deliveries of 35,836 vehicles, marking its fourth consecutive month above the 35,000 mark. While the core Nio brand saw deliveries more than double year-on-year, the Onvo sub-brand experienced a sharp drop, highlighting diverging trends within the company’s lineup.
August Delivery Breakdown
Nio Inc delivered 35,836 vehicles in August, a 14.47% increase compared to the same month last year. Despite this year-on-year growth, deliveries edged down 0.27% from July’s 35,934 units, marking the second consecutive monthly decline. The company has consistently delivered over 35,000 vehicles each month since May, maintaining a strong sales pace.
The Nio brand led the charge with 21,174 vehicles delivered in August, up 101.18% year-on-year and 5.83% from July. This accounted for 59.09% of Nio Inc’s total August deliveries, a significant rise from 33.62% a year earlier.

Onvo and Firefly Performance
Onvo, Nio’s sub-brand, delivered 8,810 vehicles in August, down 46.39% year-on-year and 13.24% from July. This marks the third straight month of declining deliveries for Onvo, reducing its share of Nio Inc’s total to 24.58%, compared to 52.50% a year ago.
Firefly delivered 5,852 vehicles in August, representing a 34.65% increase year-on-year and a 1.40% rise from July. Firefly accounted for 16.33% of the company’s total deliveries for the month.
Year-to-Date and Cumulative Figures
In the first eight months of 2026, Nio Inc delivered 262,893 vehicles, up 57.92% year-on-year. The Nio brand contributed 160,670 units, a 64.55% increase, while Onvo delivered 61,428 vehicles, up 13.19%. Firefly’s year-to-date total reached 40,795 vehicles.
Cumulative deliveries for Nio Inc reached 1,260,485 vehicles by the end of August. The all-new ES8 model alone achieved 140,000 cumulative deliveries as of August 21, just 335 days after its launch.
Battery Swap Network Expansion
Nio expanded its battery swap infrastructure to 4,000 stations as of August 7. The company also launched its first fifth-generation battery swap station, which is compatible with Nio, Onvo, and Firefly vehicles. This move formally integrates Firefly into the Nio Power battery swap network.
Competitor Comparison
Nio’s August performance stands out in a competitive Chinese EV market that includes rivals such as BYD, Li Auto, and Aito. While Nio’s main brand saw strong growth, BYD continues to lead in overall volume, and Li Auto’s extended-range models remain popular. Nio’s focus on battery swap technology and expansion into new markets like Singapore, Uzbekistan, and Costa Rica may help differentiate it from these competitors.
Why this matters
Nio’s ability to sustain high delivery volumes despite mixed results across its brands highlights both the strength and challenges of its diversified strategy. The rapid growth of the main Nio brand offsets declines at Onvo, while Firefly continues to grow its share.
The expansion of Nio’s battery swap network and integration of all brands into this infrastructure may provide a competitive edge as the company enters new international markets and faces increasing competition at home.
What this means for buyers
For buyers, Nio’s continued investment in battery swap technology and network expansion could mean greater convenience and flexibility, especially as more models become compatible. The strong growth of the main Nio brand suggests increasing consumer confidence, while the company’s entry into new regions may soon offer more options for international customers.
Potential buyers should monitor how Nio’s lineup evolves, particularly as the company adapts to shifting demand between its brands and expands its service infrastructure.
