Nio Opens First Nio House in Macau as ES9 Deliveries Commence

Nio has expanded its presence in Macau with the opening of its first Nio House, coinciding with the start of ES9 SUV deliveries in the city. The move marks a significant step for the brand as it strengthens its sales and service network in the region.

Nio House Launch and ES9 Deliveries

Nio, in partnership with Guangdong Hongyue Automobile Group, has opened its first Nio House in Macau. The new facility is located at Residencia Macau on Avenida da Ponte da Amizade, near the Crowne Plaza Macau. On the same day, Nio began deliveries of its flagship ES9 SUV to local customers.

The Nio House offers more than just vehicle sales, providing product experiences, user services, technology showcases, and hosting community events. This approach is designed to foster a sense of community among Nio owners and potential buyers.

Expanding Sales and Service Network

With the opening of the Nio House, Nio’s Macau network now includes 1 Nio House, 1 Nio Space, and 2 battery swap stations. A third battery swap station is currently in the planning stage. The company has also upgraded its authorized service center in Macau, making it easier for customers to access after-sales support.

Nio’s first battery swap station in Macau began operation in November 2021, with a second following in October 2023. Charging facilities have been installed near the second station, supporting both Nio vehicles and other EVs.

Dealer Partnership and Market Strategy

Nio’s expansion in Macau follows a shift in its operating model. In June 2025, the company announced it would seek a distributor for the market, with the partner responsible for local operations, user service network development, and brand ecosystem expansion.

Hongyue Group, which has nearly 30 years of experience in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area, is now Nio’s authorized partner in Macau. This partnership allows Nio to leverage local expertise and resources, reducing the upfront costs associated with building its own sales and service networks.

Regional Availability and Policy Environment

Macau’s vehicle-use environment differs from the Chinese mainland, with most vehicles being right-hand-drive. However, local policies permit the purchase and use of left-hand-drive vehicles, giving mainland Chinese EV makers like Nio greater flexibility compared to neighboring Hong Kong, where restrictions are tighter.

Before formally announcing its local strategy, Nio already had several hundred owners in Macau, partly due to the city’s proximity to Guangzhou and Shenzhen.

Competitor Comparison

Nio faces competition in Macau’s premium EV segment from other Chinese brands such as BYD, Li Auto, and XPeng, all of which have expanded their presence in the Greater Bay Area. Nio’s multi-brand approach, offering vehicles from its Nio, Onvo, and Firefly brands, sets it apart as one of the few automakers with a full portfolio available in Macau.

Why this matters

Nio’s expansion in Macau demonstrates the company’s commitment to growing its footprint in the Greater Bay Area and adapting its business model to local market conditions. The opening of the Nio House and the start of ES9 deliveries provide local consumers with more premium EV options and improved after-sales support.

This move comes as Nio continues to grow, with 2025 sales reaching 326,028 vehicles, a 46.9% increase year-over-year. Despite a challenging outlook for China’s auto market in 2026, Nio’s strategy of partnering with established local dealers could help sustain its momentum.

What this means for buyers

For Macau residents interested in premium electric vehicles, Nio’s expanded network means easier access to sales, service, and battery swap infrastructure. The availability of all three Nio brands—Nio, Onvo, and Firefly—offers a wider range of choices for different needs and budgets.

Buyers should watch for further expansion of Nio’s battery swap network and potential updates on ES9 pricing and availability as the company strengthens its presence in the region.
