Voyah’s new Taishan X8 full-size crossover has generated 20,000 refundable orders within 20 hours of presales opening in China. The five-seat model, offered as a plug-in hybrid or battery-electric vehicle, is positioned as a flagship-style family SUV with large dimensions, Huawei LiDAR hardware, dual 15.6-inch center displays, and an emphasis on premium comfort features.

Voyah’s new Taishan X8 has made a fast start in China. The full-size new-energy crossover collected 20,000 orders within 20 hours of presales opening, according to the brand.
The five-seat SUV is priced from 302,900 yuan, or about 44,380 USD, and sits at the top end of Voyah’s lineup. With a body length of 5.2 meters and up to 657 hp depending on configuration, the Taishan X8 is being positioned as a flagship family vehicle and a potential volume leader for the brand.
Strong early demand, but orders are refundable
Voyah said the Taishan X8 secured 15,000 orders in just the first 53 minutes after presales began on April 22. The total reached 20,000 orders after 20 hours.

These are refundable orders, which means the final delivery count will likely be lower. Even so, the early response suggests the model has struck a chord with buyers in China’s crowded premium SUV market.
Where the Taishan X8 fits in Voyah’s lineup
Voyah is a premium brand under Dongfeng that also sells in overseas markets. According to China EV DataTracker, the brand delivered 31,018 vehicles in the first quarter of 2026, a year-on-year increase of 18.5%.
The company’s current range includes the Free, Courage, Taishan, Passion, and Dream. The Taishan X8 is now joining that portfolio as a large SUV aimed at strengthening Voyah’s presence in the higher-priced new-energy segment.
Dimensions and exterior design
The Taishan X8 measures 5,200 mm long, 2,025 mm wide, and 1,814 mm tall, with a wheelbase of 3,090 mm. Those figures place it firmly in full-size SUV territory.

Design details include a body-colored large front grille, split headlights, semi-hidden door handles, and a full-width rear light bar. Voyah also says the SUV uses Huawei’s latest 896-line LiDAR sensor, which should support advanced driver-assistance functions.
Cabin layout and comfort equipment
Inside, the Taishan X8 uses a five-seat layout. The dashboard is dominated by two 15.6-inch central screens, paired with an LCD instrument cluster and a gear selector mounted behind the steering wheel.

Other features include an onboard refrigerator and a rear ceiling-mounted screen. Voyah says every seat offers heating, ventilation, and massage, underscoring the model’s comfort-first positioning.
Powertrain options
The Taishan X8 is available in plug-in hybrid and battery-electric forms. The PHEV uses a 1.5-liter engine rated at 110 kW, or 148 hp, combined with electric motors.
The entry-level hybrid version uses dual-motor all-wheel drive with 365 kW, or 489 hp, and a 44.5 kWh battery. Voyah quotes CLTC electric range at 245 km. A higher-output hybrid variant uses a 65 kWh battery and 380 kW, or 510 hp, with 370 km of CLTC electric range.
The all-electric version also uses dual motors with a combined peak output of 365 kW, or 489 hp. It comes with 98 kWh and 120 kWh battery options, delivering a claimed CLTC range of 603 km to 727 km.
Why this launch matters
The Taishan X8’s early order count shows how quickly Chinese buyers can respond to a well-equipped flagship SUV, especially when it combines large size, premium features, and strong technical specifications. It also reflects the continued momentum of China’s new-energy vehicle market in the upper price bands.
For Voyah, the model could become a key sales driver if a meaningful share of reservations converts into deliveries. It also gives Dongfeng another high-profile product in a segment where domestic brands are increasingly competing with each other on technology, range, and cabin luxury.
Why This Matters
The Taishan X8 matters because it shows how quickly a Chinese premium EV brand can generate demand when it combines scale, technology, and luxury features in one product. Twenty thousand refundable orders in 20 hours is not the same as final sales, but it is still a strong indicator of market interest.
It also highlights the direction of China’s full-size SUV segment: buyers are increasingly being offered large cabin space, long electric range, advanced sensors, and high-end comfort equipment at prices that can still undercut many imported rivals. For Voyah, the model could be an important step toward becoming a more mainstream premium contender.
