Xpeng Begins Deliveries of Mona L05, Targets 10,000 Units in First Month

Xpeng has officially started deliveries of its new Mona L05 SUV, marking a significant step in the company’s fourth-quarter plans. The Mona L05, which went on sale in China on October 29, is positioned as a global model and is built on a dedicated production line. Xpeng aims to deliver 10,000 units of the Mona L05 in its first month on the market.

Mona L05 Launch and Delivery Milestones

Xpeng held a delivery ceremony for the first Mona L05 owners, with chairman and CEO He Xiaopeng personally handing over keys to customers. The company announced an ambitious target of 10,000 deliveries in the first month. Shortly after pricing was revealed, 5,000 units of near-ready inventory were sold out.

The Mona L05 is the third model in Xpeng’s Mona series and is produced on a dedicated line, ensuring that its manufacturing does not impact other models such as the Mona L03.

Global Ambitions and Production Standards

According to Xpeng vice president Yu Tao, the Mona L05 is designed for global markets and follows international standards in both manufacturing and quality control. The vehicle has been adapted for 82 countries and regions and is built to meet five-star safety standards in China, Europe, and Australia.

Xpeng deployed 660 test vehicles across 25 countries and regions, accumulating over 5 million kilometers (~3.1 million miles) of testing to ensure the Mona L05 meets global requirements.

Powertrain Options and Key Features

The Mona L05 is available with two powertrain options: a battery electric (BEV) and an extended-range (EREV) version. The BEV variant offers a maximum CLTC range of 635 kilometers (~395 miles), a minimum power consumption of 11.7 kWh per 100 kilometers, and can charge from 30% to 80% in 15.8 minutes. It accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in as fast as 6.8 seconds.

The EREV version provides a maximum combined CLTC range of 1,310 kilometers (~814 miles) and a maximum battery-only range of 310 kilometers (~193 miles). The Mona L05 is a five-seat mid-size SUV, measuring 4,870 mm (~192 inches) in length with a 2,940 mm (~116 inches) wheelbase.

Sales Performance and Market Reach

Xpeng began global shipments of the Mona L05 on October 26, targeting sales in 65 countries and regions. While the company has not yet disclosed delivery timelines for individual overseas markets, the Mona L05 is positioned as a key model for Xpeng’s international expansion.

In October, Xpeng delivered 50,237 vehicles, setting a new monthly record according to data compiled by CnEVPost. CEO He Xiaopeng stated during the August earnings call that with the launch of new models like the G9L and Mona L05, Xpeng aims to challenge monthly sales of more than 60,000 vehicles in the fourth quarter.

Why this matters

The launch and rapid delivery of the Mona L05 highlight Xpeng’s focus on scaling up production and expanding its presence in global markets. With dedicated production lines and adherence to international safety standards, the Mona L05 is positioned to appeal to a wide range of customers.

Xpeng’s record monthly deliveries and ambitious sales targets underscore the company’s efforts to strengthen its position in the competitive electric vehicle sector.

What this means for buyers

Buyers in China can expect prompt deliveries of the Mona L05, especially with the company’s dedicated production line and strong initial inventory sales. For international customers, the Mona L05 is being adapted for multiple markets, but delivery timelines for overseas regions have not yet been announced.

Those considering the Mona L05 should monitor Xpeng’s updates for availability in their region and compare the model’s features and range options to other mid-size SUVs on the market.
