Xpeng has announced that its flagship GX SUV has surpassed 20,000 cumulative deliveries a little more than three months after its launch. The GX has quickly become a significant contributor to Xpeng’s sales, with strong demand for its top-tier trims.
Milestone Delivery and Growing Sales
Xpeng revealed on Monday that the GX SUV has reached 20,000 cumulative deliveries since its launch on May 20. The milestone vehicle was delivered to Bu Xinwen, general manager of Bosch Huayu Steering Systems, the supplier of the GX’s steer-by-wire system.
GX deliveries began with 284 units in May, followed by 6,739 in June and 7,140 in July, bringing the total to 14,163 by the end of July. At least 5,837 GX SUVs were delivered in August, representing 81.8% of July’s deliveries.
Demand and Production Response
The GX received 24,863 firm orders within 12 hours of its launch, with more than 80% of these orders for the Ultra Flagship trim. High demand for this variant led to delivery wait times of up to 35 weeks in June.
To address the concentration of demand, Xpeng added molds and production lines for key GX components.
Model Features and Pricing
The Xpeng GX is a full-size, 6-seat SUV available in both battery electric vehicle (BEV) and extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) versions. The EREV offers an electric-only range of 430 km (~267 miles) and a combined range of 1,585 km (~985 miles) with a full tank and charge. The BEV version provides a CLTC range of up to 750 km (~466 miles) and supports 5C ultra-fast charging.
Key features include steer-by-wire and active rear-wheel steering, giving the over 5.2-meter (~205 inches) long SUV a turning radius of 5.4 meters (~17.7 feet). Higher-priced variants are equipped with three Xpeng-developed Turing AI chips, delivering 2,250 TOPS of computing power, and use a vision-only driver-assistance system without LiDAR.
The GX starts at $40,055 (~AUD 55,913) after limited-time incentives, with an official price range of $41,539 (~AUD 57,986) to $53,416 (~AUD 74,565). This starting price is close to the Onvo L90 from Nio Inc, while remaining well below the GX’s pre-sales price of $59,355 (~AUD 82,854).
