Arcfox Opens Pre-Sales for 2027 Alpha S5 With Standard LiDAR, Starting at $18,208 (~AUD 25,914)

Arcfox, the electric vehicle brand under BAIC Group, has begun pre-sales for its 2027 Alpha S5 sedan. The new model brings advanced driver-assistance features and LiDAR as standard across all variants, aiming to stand out in China’s highly competitive electric sedan market. Pre-sales pricing starts at $18,208 (~AUD 25,914), with a top CLTC range of up to 750 km (~466 miles).

Pre-Sales and Pricing Details

Arcfox opened pre-sales for the 2027 Alpha S5 on Friday, offering three battery-electric variants. Prices range from $18,208 (~AUD 25,914) for the 650 Plus LiDAR version, $19,703 (~AUD 28,041) for the 650 Max LiDAR, and $21,646 (~AUD 30,807) for the 750 Max LiDAR Shenxing.

Customers who order during the pre-sales period are eligible for benefits valued at $2,810 (~AUD 4,000), which include special paint worth $747 (~AUD 1,064), a lifetime warranty on the battery, motor, and power electronics, and a charging pile voucher worth $747 (~AUD 1,064). Arcfox has not yet announced the official launch date for the 2027 Alpha S5.

Design, Performance, and Technology

Described by Arcfox as an “AI high-performance wide-body sports sedan,” the 2027 Alpha S5 maintains the same dimensions as the current model: 4,886 mm (~192.4 inches) long, 1,930 mm (~76 inches) wide, and 1,480 mm (~58.3 inches) high, with a 2,900 mm (~114.2 inches) wheelbase.

The new model features a single rear-mounted motor delivering 227 kW (304 hp), enabling 0-100 km/h acceleration in 6.5 seconds. All variants use CATL batteries, offering CLTC ranges of either 650 km (~404 miles) or 750 km (~466 miles). The Alpha S5 supports 5C ultra-fast charging, allowing the battery to charge from 30% to 80% in just 8.9 minutes and add 560 km (~348 miles) of range in 15 minutes.

Additional features include a 148-liter frunk, seven exterior color options, three interior color schemes, and a low drag coefficient of 0.1925.

Advanced Driver Assistance and Cabin Technology

All 2027 Alpha S5 variants come standard with a 192-channel LiDAR system, three millimeter-wave radars, twelve ultrasonic sensors, and seven high-definition cameras. The BAIC Yuanjing intelligent driver-assistance system, powered by an end-to-end 4.0 AI model, supports urban and highway navigation assistance, automatic emergency steering (AES), and memory parking across multiple floors.

The vehicle is equipped with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8775A chip, integrating cockpit and driver-assistance functions. Inside, the Alpha S5 features a 15.6-inch central touchscreen and a 68-inch augmented reality head-up display, with access to Alibaba’s Qwen and ByteDance’s Doubao large language models.

Performance enhancements include FSD variable-damping shock absorbers and four-piston brake calipers. Arcfox states the car can stop from 100 km/h in 33.5 meters (~110 feet) and completed the moose test at 82.8 km/h.

Market Position and Competition

The Alpha S5 competes in a crowded price segment, facing rivals such as Xpeng’s Mona M03 and Leapmotor’s B01. The current Alpha S5, launched in March, is available in both battery-electric and extended-range variants, with the battery-electric versions starting at $17,461 (~AUD 24,850). Arcfox has not yet disclosed whether the extended-range versions will be updated alongside the new battery-electric models.

Why this matters

By making advanced features like 192-channel LiDAR and AI-powered driver assistance standard across all variants, Arcfox is raising the bar for technology in the affordable electric sedan segment. The combination of long range, ultra-fast charging, and a comprehensive suite of safety and convenience features positions the Alpha S5 as a strong contender in China’s rapidly evolving EV market.

What this means for buyers

Buyers considering an electric sedan in this price range now have access to advanced driver-assistance systems and fast-charging capabilities that were previously limited to higher-end models. Those interested in the 2027 Alpha S5 can take advantage of pre-sales incentives, but should watch for the official launch date and any updates regarding the extended-range variants.
